Help Wanted

Help Wanted

The Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance is looking for volunteers for various roles in the organization. Whether you can spare a couple of hours on a weekend or put in a few hours a week when your boss is not looking, we can use your help.  We need to grow so we can build more trail and maintain what we already have, and we need your help to do it!  There are a wide variety of opportunities available - please take a look and see what will work for you.  Also, if you think the CMBA needs help with something but you don’t see it listed, then we definitely want to know about it!  Send an e-mail to info@cmbalink.com and let us know how you want to help out.  Thanks in advance...

Website
Our website [www.cmbalink.com] needs some work by somebody who knows what they're doing.  We need:
Web Designer[s] - Our website uses Drupal 6.x.  If you know what that means and you have some ideas about how our site could be better, we want you!
Site Admin[s] - We get hit by spam fairly regularly, people forget passwords, etc.  We could use a hand with managing that stuff.

Creative
Content Writers - If you like to write short articles and reviews, we could use your help.  The website needs more up-to-date content about trails and the people who use them, issues the CMBA is facing, event coverage, educational pieces, etc.  If you have some cool photos and videos, that’s great!
Photographers/Videographers - There is a lot of stuff going on with the CMBA at any given time, and we want a visual record of that.  We need shots/edits of riding, building, events, everything.  Beginner shutterbugs welcome.
Guerilla Marketers - We need new and improved ways of getting people informed about the CMBA and what we do.  If you have an outgoing personality, this is probably up your alley.
Events People - The CMBA has several non-trailbuilding events planned for 2011, including our AGM, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, Membership Drive, Member Appreciation Nights, and maybe more.  We need help to make these happen.
Graphic Artist[s] - Stickers, t-shirts, logos - you name it, we need help making it fresh.

Administration
There’s a lot involved with running a not-for-profit society that happens behind the scenes.  We need people to help us keep the lights on.
Grant Researchers and Writers - To build trail, maintain trail and train crew leaders, we need funding.  Most of that funding comes from corporate, provincial and federal grants.  We need people to find the grants, fill in the forms and get them sent in before deadlines.  It’s easier than it sounds, but there are a lot of grants out there.  Many hands make light work.
Legal Eagle - We can’t afford lawyers, but we could use a little free advice on things from time to time.  Nothing crime-related, more along the lines of exposure to liability, contracts, etc.

Trails
If it has something to do with building or maintaining trail, we need help with it.
Project Managers - There are a variety of trail projects that we have on the go at any given time.  These projects need somebody to stay on top of them, manage resources, round up people to do the work, etc.  Trail building experience is not a prerequisite for this.
Independent Crew Leads - We will teach you how to build trail and work with a small crew.  You will work independently on CMBA-maintained trails to fix trouble spots, build re-routes, etc.  We provide the tools and the edumacation, you work at your own pace with people you choose, whenever you want.  Previous experience is not required.
GIS - We’re always looking for new trail possibilities.  We need folks with GIS and GPS experience, especially ArcGIS or ESRI.
