About Us
Mission Statement
The Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and improving multi-use non-paved trails in and around Calgary. We are committed to keeping trails open and in good condition through a program of education, stewardship and sustainable trail building. Further, we educate trail users, park delegates, and government bodies about mountain biking and help shape local and provincial policies on trail development and access.
Activities
The CMBA actively looks for opportunities to build new trails, and maintain or improve existing trails. We will do our best to work with any organization or individual who shares our goal of expanding the network of singletrack trails in Calgary and the surrounding area. Further, we support the principles and practice of sustainable trail building. We want to develop more trail, but do it in a manner that minimizes the impact on the environment.
Accomplishments
In the past, the CMBA was instrumental in preserving cyclist's right to ride trails in and around Calgary. We assisted in the formulation of the City's Cycling Policy on Undesignated Trails in Parkland. As mountain biking has become an accepted use of trails, our focus has shifted from advocacy to creation.
Recently, the CMBA:
- Secured $80,000 in public and private funding to build the Ridgeback Trail, an 8+ km ribbon of singletrack in Kananaskis Country
- Partnered with the City of Calgary to build a section of trail in Bowmont Park's Waterfall Valley that helps reduce user conflict
- Partnered with the Friends of Fish Creek Park and Fish Creek Provincial Park management to maintain the Park singletrack trails
- Partnered with the Moose Mountain Bicycle Trail Society to plan and promote Calgary's first public Mountain Bike Skills Park
- Partnered with the West Bragg Creek Trail Society to design and develop 40+ km of trail in the West Bragg Creek area
