No experience at trail building is necessary! There will be plenty of experienced and trained Crew Leaders in attendance who you will be grouped with. They will teach and guide you while you craft that perfect single track trail. We have plenty of pro-quality tools for everyone to use. As trail building work can be energy consuming, do bring water plus a snack to eat while out on the trail.
Please meet us at 9:00 am – we will get everybody signed in, do a safety demonstration and get started shortly after. The meeting spot is the grey marker in the picture – across the street from 935 Robert Rd NE. There is plenty of parking on Robert Road NE. Look for the orange CMBA tent at the meeting spot.
So come on out to do some trail building, meet some new people (and maybe old friends), have some fun, and help shape the trails that we all love to ride! We will provide a BBQ at the end of the Trail Day (about 1:00 pm). If you can join us, please register on Eventbrite
Please bring/wear the following (we will provide tools):
If we need to cancel the Trail Day due to weather, we will post a notice on our website Friday night and notify everybody registered.
Everything about mountain biking is awesome! We’re heading to Canmore this weekend to celebrate everything about it at the Plaid Goat Mountain Bike Festival. There will be an expo, demos, group rides, coaching, shuttles, miles, of singletrack, and oh yeah–a CRAFT BEER HUB. Come visit us for high fives, hats, stickers, and maybe some other goodies.
Get tickets in Canmore at the Bicycle Cafe, Outside Bike & Ski, and Rebound Cycle or at plaidgoat.ca.
The CMBA has been working hard to develop a strategy for making sure there are lots of great places to ride in and around Calgary. We have set our goals for the next 5 years, including one that has been already achieved: the Fish Creek MTB Skills Park. There are 160 km of trail that we need to keep in tip-top shape, and we would like to add 50 km more. Here is our full Five Year Plan.
Your help can get us there. Here is what you can do:
This is AMAZING – Calgary Cycle and Devinci have teamed up to raise funds for local trails! Every $10 ticket gets you 1 entry in a draw to win a Devinci Django Carbon RS, valued at $4399.00. The proceeds will be split evenly between the CMBA, MMBTS and GBCTA. No matter where your favourite trails are, you can show them some love and get a chance to win a sweet new ride! Buy as many tickets as you want – the more tickets you have, the better the odds that you’ll win! The contest closed on September 30, Calgary Cycle will announce the winner soon!
Bike Magazine – “If all the niches disappeared… this is what a ‘mountain bike’ would look like.”
You know you want it…

A picnic lunch, sponsored by Bow Cycle, will be provided at the end of the Trail Day.

You may have heard about the upcoming Jump Jam Fundraiser on June 18 for the Canadian Rockies Mountain Bike Fest. We’ve been given two free entries to pass on to our awesome volunteers! We have one entry for the wee ones in the Kid Goat category [run bike or pedal bike], and a second entry that can be used in one of the other three categories [U18, 18+, Expert all ages]. Anyone who comes out to volunteer on the June 11 trail day is eligible for a chance to win one of the entries. We’ll see you there!
Join us on Saturday June 11 and build some new trails (blue lines) to provide a route around the storm water treatment facilities and connect the west Bowmont trails to the east Bowmont trails.

This Sunday 13th September we’ll be extending the boardwalk at the start of Ridgeback R1 to get across the muddy, braided mess that is Tom Snow. Bow Cycle are sponsoring the event and we’ll have a BBQ nearby at around 12pm with the chance to win some swag. If you can spare anything from a few minutes to a few hours we could really use your help to get this job done in one day!
Last weekend we built a similar boardwalk on R3 – that took 3 days (with only 3 people). For this next one we’ll need help carrying the lumber the last 150m from the logging road – many hands make light work. Then there will be a bit of digging and a lot of hammering to do!
There’s no sign-up and no fixed start- or finish-time. Just come and join us any time after 9am. BBQ at 12pm. With your help we should be done by 5pm at the latest. The closest trail-head is Station Flats (at the south-western side of the parking area). Immediately turn right on to Diamond-T trail (aka Tom Snow) and you’ll find us about 750m up the trail (10 – 15 minutes walk, 5 minutes ride).
Throughout September CMBA will be working on several significant upgrades to the Ridgeback trail out of Station Flats in Kananaskis. This project should deal with most of the wet & muddy problem areas and improve the flow of the trail, both up & down.
Over the wet long weekend we just built a 50m boardwalk on R3 across one of those perennially wet areas that defy fixing by any other means. We’ll also be building boardwalks at a couple more muddy spots where the logging roads afford access to haul in the large amount of lumber required.
Meanwhile, on R2 we’re working with a mini-excavator to remove the puddles and improve the flow on that long flat wet section (you probably know the one). After that we’ll be working north making more upgrades on R3 & R4 to improve the flow and make them a little easier to climb. Please watch out for the warning signs and keep well clear of the excavator!
Finally, we can always use more help from volunteers to help build these boardwalks and buff the new trail tread. This Sunday September 13th we’re aiming to build a new section of boardwalk at the start of Ridgeback R1, a short walk or ride from Station Flats.
