We will be having a Trail Day on Saturday September 7, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. We will be rerouting a trail in 12 Mile Coulee. Additional details will be posted soon.
Is this still happening? Can I come to help but leave at about noon?

Yes, we are going ahead (and hoping for good weather). You are welcome to come and help and leave about noon.

While I hate to disparage the hard work of volunteers, I fail to see the need for this re-route in 12 mile. To avoid a few roots and rocks and occasional little mudhole, a new swath has to be cut across the hillside? Hopefully an intrusive wall of PT timbers is not part of the plan also, as was done upstream a bit. And what’s next? Let’s keep the wild feeling in 12 mile. Leave it alone, the trail works fine as is.

I invite you to get involved with CMBA and contribute at the planning and design stages (usually one to two years prior to the trail work). We build and maintain sustainable trails, to IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association) standards. Criteria for a sustainable trail include: durability, low maintenance and low environmental impact. This trail was fine 20 or 30 years ago – today, the increased number of users and the need for reducing the impact on waterways (siltation of the creek and river) required a change. No plans for timbers at this location. Unfortunately, the alternative is: trails that are not sustainable will be closed.

Given the rainfall over the past 12 hours, is this trail day still a go?

We are cancelling today’s Trail Day. Thank you for your interest and support. Please check for a rescheduled date. Blair and I will be at Tuscany this morning for anybody who misses this message.
