CMBA Awarded MMEE Funding

KananaskisMoose Mountain

Good News Everyone!  The Moose Mountain Environmental Enhancement Fund has awarded $40,000 to the CMBA for the purpose of working on the Tom Snow trail.  The CMBA is extremely grateful for this grant, and thanks Shell and Husky for their generosity.

There are some conditions that the CMBA has agreed to in order to receive funding:

  • The Greater Bragg Creek Trail Association [who also received $40,000 in funding] has oversight on this project, and we will be working with them to develop trails in the area of the West Bragg trail head.
  • The funds are to be used to do work on part of the Tom Snow trail.  Currently, that entails four sections between Station Flats and Moosepackers.  It is worth mentioning that the CMBA and MMBTS jointly submitted an application for this grant, but unfortunately the other trail work in the application [fixes on Sulphur Springs, Special K, TW, Billy Dog and Race of Spades] were excluded from the funding.
  • The funding is to be used for things like labour costs, equipment rental, tool purchase, etc.  I didn't see "raging kegger" on the list, but it never hurts to ask.  We cannot use the grant to pay for insurance, web hosting, marketing, etc.
  • The grant expires next spring, so the vast majority of the work will need to be completed this year before the snow flies.

We'll supply more details on the project over the next few weeks.  If you have any questions about this grant, please post them.

Tom Snow Rebuild

Rebuilding Tom Snow is a worthy project. I hope they buff it all the way from the North end to the South. In particular, I hope all the mud bogs disappear and a single track trail appears to replace the gravel road section by West Bragg. It would also be nice to have a single track connector from the West Bragg parking lot to Tom Snow (and ultimately to Moosepackers).  I'm looking forward to the plan :)
