CMBA supports IMBA's Position on Freeriding

CMBA has participated in discussions that resulted in the development of an IMBA position on freeriding. It is:Bruce freeride

  • Freeriding is a style of mountain biking that celebrates the challenges and spirit of technical riding and downhilling.
  • IMBA supports freeriding as long as it's responsible and sustainable. We are committed to helping develop trails and riding areas that appeal to all mountain bikers.
  • The future of all aspects of mountain biking depends on cooperation with land managers and our collective commitment to protect the natural environment.
  • Young mountain bikers identify with the challenges and spirit of freeriding. By recognizing and supporting this connection IMBA will help to ensure the future of mountain biking.
  • IMBA supports downhill racing. We develop and recommend sustainable course construction techniques.
  • IMBA supports off-trail riding only in appropriate, designated special use areas.

This position is completely consistent with CMBA's focus on sustainable mountain bike riding that protects the natural environment. It is also consistent with CMBA's trail maintenance and educational activities.

CMBA is committed to supporting a unified voice for all mountain bikers to enhance the riding experience of everyone, enhance the reputation of all mountain bikers and maintain the natural character of areas where we ride.
