Two Thousand Three... Where will you be??

by Kip Keylock

It's well into our new year on the calendar, and we should be just starting on the riding times by now. We at CMBA hope the winter was kind to all, despite the turbulence we see politically, and economically. Isn't it good to have something as simple as biking to keep us together, and sane?

How did the goals for last year turn out? No doubt we all have new ones for this year, and are well on our way. CMBA's goals are going forward quicker than we expected... may we elaborate?

  • Membership was a big priority for us last year... we wanted to increase our members, and we did... substantionally... this is good for all of us... more discounts, more shops, more voice... all good!
  • We acquired many new tools as the building season is on us... (Come out to one of our building days, and try out some of these cool units!!)
  • CMBA is taking on a" huge" project, working with Freeriders, to open not one, but TWO parks here in Calgary... much more to come...
  • Our Annual General Meeting was extremely well supported this past Feb 15/03... kudos to all who came out... and thanks..!!
  • We are working close with other cities such as Red Deer, and Kamloops who are well under way on projects of their own.
  • We have goals of hiring on a full time rep in Calgary to keep the momentum going.

Sound like a good year of work? We certainly think so... Thanks to all the members who continue to support the cause, and to the executive members who still believe we make a difference. Many thanks to the local bike shops who not only support our work, but come up with ideas that work for all of us.

So many of you, members, and future members, have asked, "how can I help"?

The answer is simple... please join our group... we need members who want to keep trails open, and look for future projects we can get involved with.

Strength in numbers is so true in our case. We need your vote, and support.

Wishing you a great year of riding, and happy trails...
