Moose Mountain Trail Forum

This is your chance to help in the development of new trail projects!

CMBA will be holding a Moose Mountain Trail Discussion Forum Monday, November 3rd at 7:00pm at the University of Calgary (Science Theaters Building, room ST145).

The goal of the forum will be to present ideas and gather feedback so as to know which trail project ideas we have popular backing on prior to further discussions between CMBA and Sustainable Resources Development.

Bruce Robertson and Paul Sudlow will present some ideas on behalf of CMBA. Most of these ideas are ideas that they have come up with in discussions with fellow riders over the past few months. Those who wish to make a presentation of an idea can do so at the meeting. Moose Trails

Existing ideas for trail projects include:

  1. New trail parallel to Moose Mountain Road
    • Designed mainly for uphill traffic
    • Close to road therefore less encroachment into animal habitat
    • Beneficial for hikers/riders who would otherwise be climbing up the road.
    • Consistent gentle grades that should keep erosion very low.
    • Easy access for emergency rescue.
    • Option to consider: stunted trail along side for downhill traffic.
  2. Maintenance on Moose Packers
    • Obvious need.
    • Obvious benefits.
  3. Maintenance on Tom Snow Trail
    • Provide drainage to wet areas and/or build deck crossings
    • Obvious need
    • Obvious benefits
  4. Maintenance and new stunts for Special-K
  5. Re-route the bottom of Special-K
    • Make a more flowing trail
    • Join Tom Snow after the creek crossing
  6. Maintenance and new stunts for T-Dub
  7. Maintenance and new stunts for SLF
  8. New Trail from top on East Side
    • Start at top near Special K Trail head.
    • Finish at, or near to, Station Flats.

Other topics for discussion if there is time:

  1. Standards for stunts - what should they be?
  2. Adopt IMBA obstacle/stunt standards?
