Pneuma
Pneuma is a singletrack trail that parallels Moose Mountain Road. Construction of this trail began in 2008, and it is still under development. It was created with the goal of providing an alternate route for those riders who do not wish to ride to the Moosepackers trail on the road. The trail was designed and built by members of MMBTS.
Lower Access: Currently, the best lower access point is from Sulphur Springs Trail, approximately 350m NE of where SS crosses Moose Mountain Road. It is also possible to access the trail from Hot Laps, which is a freeride trail that runs from Elbow Valley trail to Sulphur Springs on the East side of Moose Mountain Road.
Upper Access: Currently, the highest upper access point is across the road from the entrance to SLF trail. Other access points are on Race of Spades and at the wellsite halfway up the road.
Future Development: Plans are in place to extend Pneuma to the top of the Moosepackers switchbacks via the ridgeline. The trail will cross Special K as well. Eventually, Pneuma will extend all the way to the bottom of Moose Mountain Road via Hot Laps. In total, this will provide ~10km of singletrack descending from the top of the hill to the bottom, with options to divert to several trails along the way.
Characteristics: Climber's Delight. Largely running parallel to Moose Mountain Road, Pneuma consistently gains elevation with only a few breaks to catch your breath. The trail is narrow, both in terms of clearance to the trees and in the actual tread width. There are a few exposed areas, but nothing too hairy [look where you want to go]. As the trail gets closer to the top, it also gets steeper. Be aware of other riders on the trail, as there is two-way traffic. Also, keep an eye out for deadfall across the trail, especially in May and early June.
