Fish Creek trail planning
A meeting took place last week to discuss the motivation, plan and approach to building the singletrack trail through Fish Creek Provincial Park.
Representatives from several Parks departments were present, as well as the trail care coordinator from the Friends of Fish Creek and myself for the CMBA. Overall, the meeting was very positive. Previous misunderstandings were cleared up, paving the way for building a working relationship between the involved groups.
In brief, the singletrack, "built" using existing stretches of trail, will be designated as a third level of trail in the park. It would have a lower standard of care than the paved and granular pathways, providing a narrower and more natural-type trail (basically what the singletrack looks like now). A development plan - including maps, current trail conditions and required trail work - is being put together by CMBA for discussion with Park staff. It is expected that the final plan will be based on a mutual agreement between CMBA, Parks and the Friends.
Stay tuned as draft plans should be available for review by CMBA members in the coming weeks. Your input is valued, as it helps us provide a clear direction for trails that we *want* to ride.
