Prairie View - Jewell Pass - Chief Hector

I thought I was really going to suffer today, but it was all good from start to finish.  After sleeping extra late and having a light breakfast, we headed out to Barrier for some riding.  The plan was to do a double loop, with a ride up and over to Jewell, then loop back around to do Chief Hector.  The trails were in great shape.  I took it easy on the climb to the top.

As usual, we had a rest at the top of the hill.  As usual, great views.

The ride down Jewell Pass was fast.  For the first time in ages, we didn't encounter anyone until we got right to the bottom.  It was a great ride!  Now all we had to do was ride back up to CCH and hit that downhill.  The descent was about as good as I've ever seen it.  I definitely prefer it to Jewell.  I made it down to the bottom first, and waited for my wife to arrive.

Oh, there she is...

Credit where credit is due, she cleaned the whole thing, just not quite as fast as me.  The trail back to Barrier was also in the best shape I've seen it in a long time.  The horse ruts were tiny compared to past years.  If you're thinking about going, do it!  Here's the route we took [we did the left loop first].

CCH + JP

Today we rode Camp Chief Hector first, then met up with some friends and rode Jewell Pass.  There have been a number of small tweaks made to both trails by erosion and/or person[s] unknown.  The result is a general "smoothening" of both trails.  Unless you have ridden them a lot, you probably won't notice.  In fact, after a couple more seasons it will be hard to remember the "old" way.
