Moosepackers!

After a very lazy morning, we trudged out to the car and drove to Station Flats around noon.  Yes, it was hot.  It was also our first Moosepackers ride for the year, which I think is the latest I've done this trail in 10 years.  Anyway, we headed out on Sulphur Springs and began the climb.  Other than the odd wet spot, the trail is dusty and dry.  Nothing new to report on the climb either.  The new singletrack section that ties into Pneuma has really set up nicely,  other than a couple of horse-created post-holes, it has smoothed out nicely.

Pneuma has also smoothed out, and is a lot firmer than the last time I rode it.  There are some spots that show signs of erosion, but can be easily fixed.  There's the usual amount of loose rock, but that adds to the challenge.  The trail peters out about 100m past the RoS crossing.  Trees have been cleared, but it's overgrown and has new deadfall on it.  If you're planning on riding all the way to the top, ride up RoS to the road and get to the top from there.

The rest of the ride was the same as usual.  The switchbacks haven't changed, Tom Snow has bogs.  The new spur trail off to the right after you climb the last hill is in good shape.  It needs to be ridden in [and buffed a little], but it's a nice alternative to the last bit of Tom Snow.

Here's a comparison of the original Moosepackers loop [red] with the current incarnation with Pneuma and the two new CMBA sections [orange]:

Upper Pneuma - not much there...
