News Archive - 2001 CMBA meets with the City to discuss Freeriding CMBA has had meetings with the City administration in an attempt to locate appropriate locations for freeriding in Calgary. It is our intention to avoid a situation similar to what is happening in Canmore by proactively working with the City to identify locations that are appropriate for freeriding and acceptable to the City. As a first step, CMBA has been asked to document the criteria that identify an appropriate freeriding venue. We are putting together a committee to define these criteria and continue the dialogue with the City Administration. If you are interested in participating on this committee please send an email to info@cmbalink.com.

Moraine Lake Highline Trail - Open to Bikes This good news comes following the report by grizzly bear expert Steve Herrero who was unaware of any ecological rationale for managing cyclists separately from other users. The trail will no longer be managed using restricted access and the upper section will be seasonally closed to ALL users during berry season. Parks Canada is also investigating the potential development of a drop-out trail connecting the trail to Moraine Lake Road. Based on this report, Parks Canada has concluded that "Mountain biking on the Highline Trail is both an allowable and appropriate activity, so we're not going to eliminate mountain biking". Many thanks go to the people who helped make this happen.
