Post-Stampede Roundup
I did my part this Stampede by buying not one, but TWO $7 cans of Molson at a western-themed event. The next day, I went for a ride and hit a cowpie square in the middle. Can’t accuse me of not getting into the spirit!
We would like to extend huge thanks to Bow Cycle, Calgary Cycle, The Bike Shop, Pure Cycle, Remington Developments and Trans Rockies for donating great prizes to our movie night on July 22. Everyone loved the swag!
Those of you who follow us on Twitter [#cmbalink] may have noted that we found a shotgun in Fish Creek Park during last Saturday’s trail work. “Pics or it didn’t happen” you say?
The gentleman in the photo is a Conservation Officer and took custody of the weapon until it could be turned over to police. Never a dull moment when you’re with the CMBA! The trail work went well, with a bit of rock armouring and removal of some potential eye-gouging hazards. Next up is a reroute of a trail section that has partially fallen into the creek near Votier’s Flats. If you ride through that area, you might have seen the orange snow fencing blocking the trail. The fence is there for a reason – the trail is actually missing in spots, with a 6′ – 8′ drop into the creek, not to mention an unstable bank that could fall away after the next heavy rain.
Finally, a CMBA member was kind enough to map almost all of the trails in the Eastlands area by COP [linky]. We get asked all the time, “Where can I ride in Calgary?” We are working on a more comprehensive guide to riding in Calgary, and hope to have that out soon.
