Pathway/Bikeway Planning Openhouse

Subject: Stakeholder Representation

Hello to all stakeholders:

Last year you participated in the Calgary Pathway and Bikeway Plan, a joint initiative of the City of Calgary's Transportation and Parks departments. The final draft of the study is now complete and will be presented to committee in June and to City Council in July for approval. The study has already enjoyed some success, as it was granted an Award of Excellence by the Alberta Association of the Canadian Institute of Planners. As a follow up to last year's project, a full route analysis for northeast and northwest Calgary is being prepared. Once again IBI Group has been retained as the consultant to facilitate the project. Key tasks associated with the project are as follows: * testing proposed NE and NW pathway and bikeway routes, including links to routes outside the city; * identifying gaps in the network, and prioritizing areas needing action. We are using a participatory process for this phase, and invite you again to take part in the project as a stakeholder representative for your department or organization. If you cannot be involved, we would be happy to have another representative from your group take part. Stakeholder involvement will entail initial issue identification, liaison with your organization, participation in one or both workshops, and consultations as necessary.

Key dates for the public participation program are as follows:

  • public open house: Thursday, June 22 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Crescent Heights Community Association Hall 1101 - 2 St. N.W. - there will be an opportunity to map proposed routes, issues and concerns * mobile stakeholder workshop:
  • Saturday, July 15 (½ day) * second stakeholder workshop: mid-September, specific date TBA * final open house:
  • November 14-16 (tentative). The first step is issue identification. We ask that you consult with your organization to identify any specific pathway or bikeway issues in the study area and forward comments to me. You can also bring forward issues and concerns at the kick-off Open House. If you are interested in taking part in the study, please reply by June 16. If you cannot participate, please let me know so I can look for another representative.

I can be contacted by phone: 270-5627, fax: 270-5610, or e-mail: cathy_a@ibigroup-calgary.com. We look forward to carrying out another successful project, with your input and contributions. IBI GROUP Catherine Ascroft Planning Analyst
