September 2002
On September 21 2002, CMBA held a trail maintenance day on the Sulphur Springs / Elbow Valley trail in Kananaskis. We had eight people out. Started work at 10AM. Several people worked on removing brush and improving minor drainage issues on the 1.6 km trail that leads from the Station Flats parking area to the Sulphur Springs loop. Most of us went north along the Sulphur Springs trail (toward the swampy area), doing further work on drainage issues (two particularly bad spots). In the afternoon, several people left to return to Calgary, while five of us moved up to the northwest corner of the loop to work on some minor drainage issues plus continue down the switchbacks, de-braiding the trail (converting 3 existing trails into one drainage ditch and one flat, wider trail). That consumed the day. We finished at about 3 PM. All together about 35 man-hours of work. No injuries, no problems. The trail is a slightly better place.

July 2002
Mike and Pete would like to thank all those who have participated in the trail construction sessions so far. We have made excellent progress to date and are reviewing some more routing options and mowing with the City.
We will be having some more sessions later in the summer (after mid-August) but due to the excellent summer we are holding off from any formal dates until then. If however you have a few friends and a hankering to do maintenance before then, just give Mike or Pete at call and they will organize an ad-hoc crew. But please do not do trail work on your own. Unless the work is ok'd by Parks and Rec it is considered vandalism!

May 2002
On Sunday May 26 2002, CMBA's group of 11 hardy volunteers finally took part in the 35th Annual Pathway & River Cleanup. The Cleanup was originally scheduled for May 5th but all the snow on the ground that day would have made it difficult to find much in the way of garbage. So, on the second attempt we found ourselves under sunny skies in the wilds of central Bowmont. Our labours filled a great many garbage bags with all kinds of stuff - people drop the strangest things in the park. We'll be doing it again next year, so watch this space if you want to come help clean up the parks that we all so enjoy.
