National Park Trail Patrol
BVMBA Volunteer Trail Patrol - Help us keep Banff's trails open to bikes One of the Bow Valley Mountain Bike Alliance's goals is keeping trails in Banff open to mountain bikes. For the past two years, we have worked with Parks Canada personnel to establish a volunteer trail patrol. The program involves a group of volunteer riders (recognized by yellow wind vests) who ride local trails in Banff National Park and fill out a brief report afterwards, recording and assessing trail use, conditions, etc. At the end of the season, we compile reports into an evaluation and submit this to Parks Canada. Parks Canada values this data, as it is baseline information about trail use in the park and related issues. Patrolling is easy, fun, and helps preserve bicycle access to some wonderful trails. The program is very flexible: you choose the day and the ride (as long as it is a trail open for bikes!) and simply complete a report at the end of your day. We welcome CMBA members' involvement. If you are interested in patrolling this summer, or learning more about the program, please contact Ann Dahlberg at (403) 762-6305 or ann_dahlberg@banffcentre.ca. |
